Greensboro, N.C. – Two Guilford County Schools students have been named National Merit Scholars in the latest round of scholarship awards. Each student will receive a $2,500 student scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. In this round, 2,500 students were selected from among more than 15,000 finalists nationally. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors. Scholars may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.

GCS student winners are:

  • Cheick Mouslim Mounkaila Amadou, Early College at Guilford. Cheick plans to study computer science at Columbia University.
  • Joshua David Harrington, Southeast High. Joshua plans to study biochemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In September, 17 GCS students were named as National Merit Scholar semi-finalists.

College-sponsored merit scholarship winners will be announced in June and July.
